What would happen if I gave up meat?  

Doctors believe that red meat is carcinogenic to humans and can cause colon, pancreatic and prostate cancer. 

That said, there is a downside to giving up meat altogether - you have to compensate with other foods. Most often this happens inconsistently and the gastrointestinal (gastrointestinal tract) does not have time to readjust. This leads to failures in the digestive system, constipation, diarrhea, and bloating. Doctors recommend eliminating meat from your diet gradually, compensating with other animal proteins (fish, eggs).
