Navari TestoA hormone, released by one of the dozens of glands, moves through the blooduntil it reaches a cell with a hormone specific receptor. Then, like a key in alock, the molecule attaches to the receiver and sends a signal inside the cell. The signal may tell the cell to produce some protein or multiply. The word"hormone" was introduced in 190 by a British physiologist, ProfessorErnest Starling . It is derived from the Greek verb hormao, which means"set in motion fast, excite, stimulate". Hormones are involved inalmost all biological processes: immune function, reproduction, growth, andeven control of other hormones.
