So, how can you increase your serotonin levels naturally?A team of Diabetes Masterclass researchers studied serotonin - a hormone that is deposited in the pancreas together with insulin - to see if its absence affects the production of insulin. Their results indicate that the absence of this hormone in the pancreas of mice can lead to the development of diabetes in animals.

The findings were published in the journal Public Library of Science (PLoS) Biology. Serotonin is called "the hormone of well-being", because it can cause a feeling of happiness. It is also involved in many bodily functions. It acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain and is also found in the beta cells of the pancreas, which release insulin to regulate glucose levels in the blood.

The team found that when serotonin levels were low, the mice showed a reduced production of insulin and their blood glucose levels rose immediately after eating food. Even though, it's very early to draw any reliable conclusions, these findings give new hope to the sufferers of diabetes. It seems that increasing your serotonin levels can very helpful.
