The carbohydrates eaten by our early ancestors were mainly nutrient-rich uncultivated vegetables that contained high fiber content...with very little or no cultivated grains. Some fruits were also consumed, but they were usually not the sweet, succulent fruits eaten today.In essence, our diets should contain high portions of non-starchy vegetables such as lettuce, broccoli, celery...and a variety of legumes such as kidney beans, lentils, black-eyed peas, and lima beans. Eating refined carbohydrates should only occur occasionally...with only small portions consumed.Proteins for building and maintaining the body and internal organsProteins are basically the building blocks for much of the physical structure of the body and its associated internal organs. When protein is digested, it is broken down into various amino acids...which are then reformed into proteins the body can use for various functions.While proteins can be found in some plant foods and dairy products (and should be consumed also)...the highest forms of vital proteins are usually found in meats. Some people may disagree with the last statement, but game meat was in fact one of the main sources of protein in our early ancestor's diet.In addition...the wild game meat and fish our ancestors consumed also contained a much higher portion of proteins (muscle) and essential omega-3 fatty acids than the unhealthy fatty meats raised and consumed in today's society.
