HPV type 1, or human papilloma virus,  Essence of Argan is usually the virus responsible for plantar warts. Currently, there are over 120 known HPV types, each of these types are area specific as to where they cause infection. The formation of the wart can be from a few months to years after contact.

The plantar surface is the bottom of the foot. When HPV infects the cells of this area, a heavy callous-like formation begins to grow. Plantar warts can become very painful, even causing problems walking, it is recommended that these be treated.

Children between 12 and 16 are more likely to have this type of skin lesion, any gender or age group can suffer with them however. This lesion is viral, and can be transmitted to other people. Skin abrasions, walking barefoot, and a compromised immune system can leave the body prone to HPV infection.

There are many ways to deal with getting rid of plantar warts. If you see a health care professional they may use an acid, laser or cryotherapy, remove the area with surgery, or refer you to an immunologist for immunotherapy. Any treatment and the results will be dependent upon the person's own ability to fight the virus.

Salicylic acid, cantharidin, trichloroacetic or dichloroacetic acid are all forms of corrosive solutions that may be applied. These can be given in prescriptions that have been combined with other ingredients such as glycerin or paraffin. As the acid therapy progresses, the individual will routinely be required to cut the dead cells from the area.

Liquid nitrogen is applied to the infected site when cryotherapy is used; this treatment is also called freezing. Lasers can be used to kill the cells of the wart as well. Both of these procedures will require the person to remove dead tissue as healthier skin grows beneath it to replace the infected cells.

Surgery is an option for getting rid of plantar warts that is rarely recommended. This can create scar tissue, and make additional problems. When a person is referred for immunotherapy, the body is trained to attack the HPV infected cells to remove the wart. People often experience a return of warts.

The duct tape method, or any non breathable tape, is gaining popularity. This can be done from home and has been shown to be effective. To perform this treatment, a small piece of tape is placed over the infected area, this area is then kept dry. The tape is replaced weekly, and usually takes a minimum of six weeks to complete. The treatment is complete when the wart is removed from the bottom of the foot in a lump amount. This usually looks like an acorn, or peanut, and will leave an open area where it previous was.
