Celebrity Makeup Artist Daniel Martin Explains How To Sanitize Your Makeup

NYX Cosmetics Official Makeup Sponsor Of Nicholas K Spring/Summer 2014

In the age of coronavirus, it can feel like we’re constantly cleaning everything. Chances are your hands are parched from all that washing (but you can fix that with the best hand creams) and you’ve probably never gone through so many antibacterial wipes. One thing you might be missing? Your makeup. “Right now, especially with everything that’s happening, we’re going to be extremely hyper sensitive with what we put on our face,” says celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin, whose clients include Elizabeth Moss, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Nina Dobrev and Meghan Markle—he did her makeup for the royal wedding.

Coronavirus is sure to impact beauty routines and how we do our makeup in the future. “There’s definitely going to be a change in etiquette on set, that’s for sure,” Martin says. “I follow this model who is in Korea right now. On her Instagram stories she was on set working. The hairdresser and makeup artists were wearing masks; you can see people on set wearing masks. I think what’s going to happen is we’re going to show up on sets and we’re all going to be in masks. There will not be a lot of people on set, just the essentials—the photographer, makeup artist, hair stylist. We’ll get back to work, but how we do our work will definitely change. Instead of doing hair and makeup at the same time, it’ll be the model and hairdresser and then the model and makeup artist. The only person on set with the talent would be the stylist to make sure it looks perfect. These are definitely going to slow down the process, but we can get back to normal.”

It won’t just be movie sets and photo shoots that will see major changes—it’ll also be at your vanity. Going forward, regularly sanitizing your makeup will be the new norm. For starters, get a good disinfectant that you can use to clean most of your makeup. “Between 70 to 99% alcohol is what you want,” Martin says. “The higher the alcohol grade, the faster it dissipates because the concentration is so high. I tend to keep 91% isopropyl alcohol from CVS [Martin has partnered with the retailer] in a spray bottle. I definitely recommend trying to make a habit of sanitizing your makeup every time you use it just for your own peace of mind.” Martin breaks down how to sanitize every type of makeup and tool

Have you ever wondered what may be the genuine cause behind the dullness of your skin? Well, it is the build-up of makeup, creams, pollution, and dirt from the surroundings and mainly the dead skin flakes that make your skin dry and pale. Read more information: The ideal way to look after your Skin
