Measuring fluid flow within a system is a very important task. Not only does it keep you updated with the incoming flux of liquid and gas, but it can also warn you if there are any damages in the pipe system you own. Now there are three types of flow meters available in the market these days. The first is the differential pressure flow meter, which measures water flow depending on the pressure it exerts in the system. The second is the positive displacement flow meter, whose flow measurements depend on the fluid's direction. And the third one is the electromagnetic flow meter.

Among the three most common flow meters known today, the electromagnetic flow meter is the most versatile and it is able to measure the hydraulic flow rate of electrically-charged liquids or gases in a pipe system. The machination of the device is derived from Michael Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction, where the output voltage is directly proportional to the magnetic field density, the distance between the two electrodes, and the velocity of the fluid. Thus, the flow meter can only take measurements from ionized liquid or gas. Moreover, the fluid must pass through an insulated pipe system in order for the device to properly work.

There are several models of electromagnetic flow meter available in the market now-a-days. While some are sold at hardware stores located in different malls worldwide, others are sold online, even secondhand ones. A few tips when buying the flow meter, though. Make sure that the product you are about to buy would meet the specific requirements needed to fully maximize its use, such as the tube diameter and many others.
